I’m a poker fan — and a poker amateur. This is my playground. This is where I talk poker.
Last Sunday, Roland de Wolfe became the second player ever, to win poker’s “Triple crown” – that includes winning EPT, WPT and WSOP titles. De Wolfe joined Gavin Griffin as the only “Triple Crown” winners, when he won his first gold bracelet at the 27th event of this year’s WSOP.
Event 27 of WSOP 2009 was a pot limit Omaha game and de Wolfe had to beat some serious competitors on his way to the title. With a huge chip lead going into the final heads-up play against Brett Richey, he managed to hold his nerve and take home the $246,000 winner’s prize.
There are plenty of events at the WSOP, covering different poker games from pot limit Omaha to no-limit and limit hold’em. A total of 57 bracelets are up for grabs at the world’s premier poker tournament. You can catch play from arguably the best gambling casino… The Rio All- Suites Hotel and Casino.
There are a lot of mistakes commonly made by poker players — online and offline, novice and professional. They may seem quite self explanatory, even obvious, but they are quite easy to make as well, if only because they are things we tend to believe we are immune to making.
For example, some players make the mistake of playing every single hand, even if they are obviously bad hands. They think that doing so will make them seem like hardcore players, when in reality, their opponents tend to think that they are extremely hotheaded, and they will exploit that trait for all that it is worth. There is no shame in folding every once in a while. In fact, it will make you seem just the right kind of unpredictable.
Another mistake players commonly make is drinking when they play. Now, when you are just playing a few hands with your buddies, that is all well and good — unless you have a tendency to drink too much, or untrustworthy friends.
If you tend to drink to excess, then leave the brewskis at home when you play. Otherwise, you might wake up the next morning with a hangover and an empty wallet.
Let’s talk about Johnny Chan now – this guy is definitely one of the leading players in every single WSOP and this year is absolutely no exception! However, you might not know anything about him at all and that is what we are going to explore. Johnny actually started playing poker when he was 21 years old and while he was born in China, he made it over to the US and has been here every since.
One thing that you might not realize about Johnny Chan is the fact that he is one of the only professional players that can actually play and keep up with Asian poker and that is definitely one of the advantages that this guy has over a lot of the other poker players.
So if you are looking for someone to beat – this is definitely the guy to beat, he is quick and really knows how to keep his poker face straight … all of the time!
